1993. First crushes. Growing pains.

Being fifteen was never going to be easy.

It’s 1993, and Daniel Ferrars has a problem. He’s fifteen, the smallest boy in Year 10, and his voice still hasn’t broken. Worse, he’s never kissed a girl. At the end of the year, he’s heading to France on exchange, where nobody knows him as Ferrari, the kid who looks about twelve. It’s his chance to start again.

All he needs is the right clothes, the right hair and, ideally, the right girl. Daniel attacks the task with total commitment and almost no idea what he’s doing. His best mate Hodgey’s advice only makes things worse. Dancing classes are a minefield. His body refuses to cooperate. Meanwhile, November is coming, and France isn't going to wait for his voice to break.

When Will I Be Cool? is a funny, tender coming-of-age novel about first love, friendship, the questionable fashion choices of 1993 and having to leave before you're ready.
